Volunteer Opportunities

It takes an entire community to make a difference. SPARCC welcomes people with diverse backgrounds and skills to enrich our programs.  All volunteers are considered advocates for social change by providing community education, outreach support, crisis intervention and fundraising support. Training is provided.

Helpline Helpers*

Volunteers are needed to assist in answering helpline calls on weekdays at outreach offices, and occasionally during nights and weekends at the shelter.

Court Advocates*

SPARCC volunteers and advocates provide assistance and support to those seeking injunctions for protection at the courthouse. Volunteers are needed to serve as court advocates every Tuesday from 9 am-2 pm.

Venice Outreach Office*

Volunteers are needed to help with client intake, data entry, filing, and special projects (weekdays/morning or afternoon).

Hospital Advocacy Teams*

On-call teams respond to night and weekend requests from area hospitals to meet with sexual and domestic violence survivors at the hospital to provide information and support regarding SPARCC services.

Treasure Chest

Volunteers needed to staff our donation/resale shop weekly, monthly, or as needed. Scheduling conducted monthly; year-round assistance is not required. Responsibilities include accepting donations, pricing, sales, and more.

Auxiliary

The SPARCC Auxiliary is a fundraising arm of the organization that meets on a regular basis to plan fundraising events and raise awareness for SPARCC. Annual fundraisers include a fashion show, golf tournaments, family-friendly events, a black-tie gala, and others. This group also conducts social events for members and helps educate the community on SPARCC’s mission. For more information on the SPARCC Auxiliary, click here.

*Requires extended training

All direct-service volunteers for SPARCC are required to complete 60 hours of training in domestic violence and sexual assault. The domestic violence training consists of 24 hours (3 days) of in-person training and 6 hours of on the job training. The 3-day training course is facilitated 3-4 times per year. The sexual violence training is a self-paced training that is done on the computer with an additional 2-hour hotline role-play session.
