Rural On-call Sexual Assault Victim Advocate (Part-Time)

Position Summary [Purpose and Scope]:
This position provides direct services to victims of domestic violence & sexual assault in a hospital setting after regular business hours, weekends, and/or holidays. Maintains accurate and timely documentation in accordance with agency funder’s requirements.

Compensation:
If you receive a call or are required to report to the hospital, your compensation will be $21.75 per hour for the duration of the active work. This role includes an on-call compensation rate of $2.00 per hour while on standby.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide on-call advocacy services at hospitals to victims, as assigned, and document service management and referrals in accordance with agency requirements
  • Participate in trainings to meet continuing education and certification requirements
  • Keep Supervisor apprised of activities, informally and by written word
  • Perform other VOCA allowable duties as necessary or assigned to assist victims of crime

Education or Equivalent:
Bachelor’s Degree in social work/mental health or related human services field; related work experience may be substituted for education. Prior experience in working with target population.

Knowledge/Skills Requirements:

  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, and personal computer skills
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and related community resources
  • Significant knowledge and commitment to feminist, domestic violence, and sexual violence doctrines
  • Must pass Florida Department of Law Enforcement criminal background check
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid Florida driver’s license

Upon Hiring:

  • Must pass CORE Competency Training for Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault
  • Must pass and maintain CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Must document 16 hours of approved continuing education annually, with at least 8 hours in trainings related to sexual assault

Holiday Schedule Requirements:
Must be able to work 7 of the 10 recognized holidays:

  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving (2 days)
  • Christmas (2 days)
  • New Year’s Day
  • Presidents Day
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day
  • Juneteenth
  • Columbus Day

Work Requirements:

  • On-call time: 15 to 18 days per month
  • 15 minutes per week for administrative tasks
  • Staff meetings: 1 hour monthly (optional via Zoom)
  • Must have adequate transportation
  • Must be able to meet the required hospital response time (1 hour)
  • Must have a cell phone

Training Required (30/90 Days):

  • Within 30 days: Complete ACT Training (30 hours)
  • Within 90 days: Complete Core Competency Training (30 hours)

Annual Training:

  • Direct service employees must complete all annual training requirements

Continuing Education:

  • 16 hours: Must complete in-service training each fiscal year
  • 8 hours: Must complete training on relevant sexual violence issues

Physical Requirements:
Position requires the physical ability to lift approximately 25 lbs., sit or stand for extended periods of time, bend freely, and reach objects overhead. Must be able to converse on a telephone and use a keyboard effectively.

Hospital Advocacy Volunteer Application

At this time, the Hospital Advocacy Team is the only advocacy volunteer opportunity available. On-call volunteers respond to night and weekend requests from hospitals in Sarasota, Venice, Englewood, and Northport, meeting with sexual and domestic violence survivors to provide information, support, and resources regarding SPARCC services.
